A Chinese Valentine

The Don Melchor 2004 certainly hit it's stride and did have a long and pure finish a la Settle Slew. No fruit bomb and not quite Bordeaux. Certainly decanting it early gave it the mouth filling flavors that weren't there at the New York Wine Experience where I thought it was horrible. I guess drinking a 97 Ridge Monte Bello just before didn't help.

As for the 2001, lucky for us it mentioned it was similar to a St. Julien which led to opening a Ch. LaLande 1999. Both exhibited an elegant earthiness that was well integrated with the fruit. This comparison really makes a tasting.
