2009 ended with a bang so to speak with a cellar tasting put on by John at Tony's for our final Thursday night "class." Thinking that I arrived early, I found that I was behind with the pre-tasting. Before I knew it, I had three glasses in front of me with three different wines. Remarkable as it may seem, Lori still had one glass and we were upstairs. After the last Thursday tasting which no one enjoyed for reasons that shall go unspoken in this venue, everyone was bit on edge. Invoking a tradition that had waned of late, I took the class notes and read them for the class, none of which had anything to do with the wines. Of note, the 1999 Beucastel was my favorite of the evening by a wide margin. It was still bright with flavor and a juicy acidity that played well with Tony's excellent pork! As usual, I stayed away from the stinky cheese.
