Cellar Reduction Party!

Well another successful year had to end with another great effort by friends and family to reduce the abundance of wine that I have. So, now it is your time to vote for the wines that you loved, hated or were indifferent about. Thankfully I only have three bottles with wine remaining in them. I guess it's time to re-taste!

3. EmH Black Cat Napa Cabernet 2005
4. Trapiche Malbec 2006
5. Cellars Baronia Montsant engolora 2004
6. Ravenswood Belloni Zinfandel 20002
7. Blue Rock Alexander Valley Syrah 2006

My favorite of the evening was the Turley. Some people would say, of course you would say that. What where the surprises? The Twomey 2005 Merlot. I don't even like Merlot but it was very nice. The accident of the night was a great surprise - Bedrock 2009 Pinot. More Oregon-like. Nice fruit but not the "sweetness" you get from your normal California Pinot. Disappoints were the Ravenswood - probably on the down spiral. Our Spanish wine was corked. A disappointment for sure. The Von Strasser Sori Brico was nice but clearly needed a side of beef. To be honest, it was all a little too much to keep track of.

Gee, you think a guy could tell the difference between a pinot and syrah!

I liked the Twomey Merlot also (but then I did pick it so then I'm biased). Seriously there were several other very nice picks that evening and I lost track of several good tastes. But I think my favorite was the one efc pulled out of the closet at the end of the evening. Too bad we were all sobered up to drive home by then. Hated to see the last 1/2 bottle go "un-drunken" Oh btw what Was the name of that last one?
